The SFPPlaza OSFP-400G-SR4 is a high-performance, four-channel, parallel optical transceiver designed for 400G Ethernet applications. Featuring an integrated Broadcom DSP and Coherent VCSEL technology, this hot-pluggable OSFP module provides four transmit and four receive lanes, each operating at 53.125 GBd, to deliver an aggregate data rate of 400 Gbps. It supports transmission distances of up to 60 meters over OM3 multimode fiber and 100 meters over OM4 multimode fiber, making it ideal for short-reach, high-bandwidth optical interconnects.

Designed for high-density data center networks and AI infrastructure, the 400G OSFP SR4 transceiver enables reliable, high-speed connectivity between servers, network adapters, and switches. It can be deployed in compatible OSFP ports on NVIDIA ConnectX-7 adapters, with the opposite end connected to OSFP-800G-2xSR4 optical transceivers in 800G OSFP switches, subject to device compatibility and link configuration. This 400G-to-800G connectivity architecture provides a scalable and cost-effective solution for server-to-switch connections, rack-level networking, and high-performance computing environments.

Questions & Answers

OSFP-400G-SR4: Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is the main connectivity solution for the OSFP-400G-SR4?

A: The OSFP-400G-SR4 is commonly used in compatible OSFP ports on NVIDIA ConnectX-7 adapters. On the switch side, it can connect to an OSFP-800G-2xSR4 optical transceiver installed in a compatible 800G OSFP switch, enabling 400G-to-800G connectivity over multimode fiber, subject to the device configuration and optical interface requirements.

Q: What is the difference between OSFP-400G-SR4, QSFP112-400G-SR4, and QSFP-DD-400G-SR4?

A: These modules use different host electrical interfaces and form factors. OSFP-400G-SR4 and QSFP112-400G-SR4 typically use four 100G-class PAM4 electrical lanes, while QSFP-DD-400G-SR4 typically uses eight 50G-class PAM4 electrical lanes. On the optical side, compatible SR4 implementations use four 100G-class optical lanes over multimode fiber with an MPO-12 interface. Actual specifications depend on the specific module design and applicable standards.

Q: Can 400G QSFP-DD, OSFP, and QSFP112 optical transceivers interoperate?

A: Yes. Different form-factor 400G optical transceivers can interoperate when they support the same optical standard, wavelength, fiber type, connector interface, and transmission distance. For example, compatible 400G SR4 modules in QSFP-DD, OSFP, and QSFP112 form factors can be interconnected over an appropriate multimode fiber link. Host port compatibility and equipment configuration must also be verified.

Q: Can an OSFP-400G-SR4 transceiver be installed in a QSFP-DD port?

A: No. OSFP and QSFP-DD are different physical form factors, and an OSFP optical transceiver cannot be directly installed in a QSFP-DD port. Select a transceiver that matches the host port’s form factor and electrical interface requirements.

Q: Can a 400G SR4 transceiver connect to an 800G Twin-Port 2xSR4 transceiver?

A: Yes. An 800G Twin-Port 2xSR4 transceiver can support connectivity to two compatible 400G SR4 transceivers, with each 400G link using a suitable MPO-12 multimode fiber patch cable. Verify the connector polarity, fiber type, and optical interface specifications before deployment. For OM4 fiber, the supported transmission distance must comply with the specifications of both transceivers.
